The sunset on our last night in Cáceres

Last weekend, the program took us on our second excursion of the semester. We went south-west to Extremadura, the autonomous community that borders the middle of Portugal. It’s a nature-rich area with two National Parks, but it was also home to Romans during the 1st century BCE until the 6th century CE. We visited Cáceres, a medieval town full of storks; Mérida, the capital of Extremadura to see the Roman ruins, and Malpartida to see where the upcoming season of Game of Thrones was shot. It was a rainy weekend, and although most of my friends grumbled that this excursion wasn’t as much fun as our trip last semester to the La Rioja wine region and Bilbao, I’m glad we went somewhere I never would have thought to visit otherwise!

Wow, Katie! Great photos from places not usually seen in tourist info. Makes us want to go there. (And eat those tapas.) Love the Roman museum! And what a beautiful, black horse! (Would be a lovely shot to crop, focusing on him/her.)
